Why people need books and why they need reading today, at the age of television and other scientific-technical progress benefits? It is the question that may bother you in case you are a person of thinking about everything kind. This is the simple question and there is the simple answer for it. People need reading because it is something more than just turning pages. When one is reading he or she is like out of this world and enters the other world – the world of books. And things are much easier there and if you are a careful reader you can find a lot of answers for the questions you bother about in your life. It is the books that keep s all those simple and true facts about this life, those facts we can’t see because of the rush common for this life. Reading makes us stop for a while and calm down and throw away all those worries and concentrate our attention on something that is important but that is also invisible for us while we are in rush. That is why people need reading and that is why they need books, I mean real books but not the audio books or something like that. Progress is good but not when it is about the truth and the meaning of this life that is contented on the paper pages of a common book.

In ancient times reading was an art for elite, and now with contemporary free education in most countries, it’s available for everyone. Till today it’s been the best way of getting information fast and rather cheap. With the development of high technologies and the Internet reading became the main way to get knowledge, because if you have an Internet connection, there’s the whole world on your computer’s screen. However, nowadays people live ‘faster’ than their ancestors, you know what I mean. That’s why a lot of people do want to learn how to read faster in order to get information first. Even such a thing developed as ’looking through’ the text, because there’s no time now to enjoy the language, the style and the meaning. On the one hand, it’s good, because information is money now, and time is money. On the other hand, as I have already said, it’s not the form that matters now, not the language, but the information. That’s why language decreases, as you can see everywhere in mass-media, a lot of clichés appear. They make people not to think at what they are going to say and how they’re going to say it, and just use simple phrases. Only those who have reading as a hobby can afford just enjoying the language.

Time spent reading is time well spent. When we read we expand our basic vocabulary, even as adults. Reading stretches our minds like nothing else can and we all too often pass it over as a meaningless past time. Reading gives us the ability to exercise our imaginations and get caught up in a turbulent and loving story that might teach us something about the world. Reading is a past time that doesn’t involve noise, that doesn’t involve negative thoughts, and that doesn’t involve pressure. When you snuggle down reading a book there is no one there to judge the speed of your process of the level of your comprehension. Over time, you can develop a very strong ability to communicate effectively as a result of reading.

A good story line can actually challenge us and offer us thought provoking questions that result in changes within our lives. We learn more about the world when we read and we can spur on our basic knowledge of the world in a very detailed and positive manner. Reading gives us the chance to enter a new world without spending more than just a few dollars on the book. We can travel to new places and meet new people in our minds and when we finally put the book down, we can feel refreshed and a little more knowledgeable about the world at large. We can peek into how other people live, and most of all, how the author thinks.
